Overview

Cities often run several degrees hotter than the land around them, largely because of the surfaces they're built with. Thermopolis lets users redesign a city and see how their choices change its temperature.

Features

  • A 3D city where users choose the surface material for each area, from asphalt and concrete to white roofs, grass and trees
  • A heat simulation that accounts for how surfaces reflect sunlight, how greenery cools the air, and how heat spreads between neighboring areas
  • Game modes, including a budget challenge, plus a shared leaderboard
  • The option to load a real town from satellite imagery and turn it into a playable map

Result

Our team won 2nd place out of 187 participants at RidgeHacks.
